Sinangån-ta Outreach - The Last Word Poetry Slam March 27th.

Sinangån-ta Poetry Collective’s youth outreach program is holding a big event this Friday, March 27th at the GATE Tiyan Theater.

This event, “The Last Word Poetry Slam“, has been months in the making.
Many youth poets from the local schools have been attending outreach clinics and events at the Sinajana Mayor’s Office for the past couple of months.

This event will showcase Guam’s youth spoken word poets as well as a special exhibition from the Hawaiian YouthSpeaks team. YouthSpeaks is a nation wide poetry collective who organize the National Youth Poetry Slam. This is an event that no one should miss.

Once again, it is Friday March 27th, 2009 at the GATE Tiyan Theater. Admission is FREE. The event starts at 6PM and this is a family friendly and all ages event. Please come support your local poets!

  1. Hey everyone, there’s a Calendar of Events section on the site now. It’s on the top navigation bar! Share and add your events whenever one comes up! Like it says, “If there are any upcoming events you’d like listed in the Events Calendar, please send a short description of the event to guamology@gmail.com

    woohoo!

  2. Sinangan-ta last night was awesome. Guaha nai kalang ti hu hongge’ i kinapas siha i famagu’on! I was literally blown away with some of their poems.

My favorite line from the whole thing was:

“I want to be able to navigate the seas with just the stars and not the stripes.”

Also, the collaborative slam of Tedtaotao and Salas and their “F.U.C.K. you letter to Bush” was so freaky right on and hilarious. For those who weren’t there, F.U.C.K. stands for “From Us Chamorro Kids.”

  3. To see all the poetry pieces from the event click on my name and go to http://theinitiative.blip.tv. I have all the poems except for the last(battery died) piece and the first one (i was setting up my cam still

Miget, it was a pleasure to see you ‘Mahi!
I’m very glad that J-Rae Tedtaotao and Shane Salas, both seniors at Southern High School, are representing and leading by example to their peers at the school. It’s students such as themselves that make me proud to be a Tuninos (Dolphin).
I thought I’d be one of the only ones in this generation making a real difference in society, but thankfull to Mel Borja and the rest of the English staff at SHS, they’ve changed lives for the students and through those students changed and inspired others.

My review of the event is waiting in the drafts section, I’ll finish it when the videos are done uploading fromy my home PC.
I’m at G3 right now slowly enjoying my Saturday.

    PEACE everyone.

  5. Yes you do Miss Aleta! I recommend you set Guamology as your home page… that way you can bless our site with your cherry gravatar every day! hope all is well… tell Mark and baby I say hello!

  6. To Aleta and all Guamology regulars, I’d recommend using RSS Feeds!

They’re easy to use to get updates on all things Guamology.

I’ll put up another tech post on using RSS Feeds and other utilities that are already built in to your web browsers and operating systems to help streamline and enhance your blogosphere experience!
