Send Guam Youth to the All-American Soap Box Derby World Championships!

If you didn’t know or if you missed it, the 4th Annual Guam Soap Box Derby was held on May 9th.
Held at the 76 Circle K Drag Strip in Yigo, the event brought together 30 different youth competitors vying for the title of Guam Soap Box Derby champ!
The annual event was hosted by Big Brothers/Big Sisters of Guam this year. 30 different local companies sponsored each of the soap box cars and their respective drivers.
Soap box races are comprised of competing drivers racing unpowered cars down a slope. The Guam event pitted racers on a 900 ft. raceway.
Fourteen-year-old Thomas Aguon who raced in the Nissan Guam car edged out Takashi Buccat in the Guam Premier Outlets car after two heats to determine the winner.
Judges determined the winner by which driver had the lowest margin of victory out of two different races. Aguon beat out Buccat with a 0.01 margin of victory.
Aguon will be flying to Akron, Ohio for the 72nd Annual All-American Soap Box Derby World Championships to be held July 20nd-25th. The All-American Soap Box Derby has been running every year since 1934.
Over 500 different racers from around the globe compete at the Championships.
A fundraiser to help aid Aguon and his team represent Guam in the All-American Derby will be held this Saturday at Grand Slam in Mangilao. A simple $10 donation will get you in to the fundraiser and any other donation you, your family, company, or organization can make will be greatly appreciated.
