(L to R: Miss Earth 2008 Carla Paul Henry, Miss Earth Guam 2008 Jennifer Neves, Miss Earth Embassador Katherine Untalan)
The reigning Miss Earth Guam, Jennifer Neves (center) was nothing less than spectacular and regal as she passed forward the crown and responsibilities to her heir to the throne.
In the international competition in the Philippines, Neves placed in the top five for swimsuit and 7th in the evening gown category, which is by any means, no small feat when competing on an international stage with contestants from around the world. See photos HERE.
The evening was hosted by emcee extraordinaire, Rick Nauta and his adorable wife, former Miss Guam World, Rita Nauta. The two made a fun combo as the evening kicked off.
The panel of judges consisted of: Elizabeth Gerber, Yvonne Speight San Nicolas, Carina Rose Fejerang, Jay Arriola, Joyce Crisostomo, Louie Montinola and Zina San Nicolas Ruiz.
Oh - and the production featured the wonderful talents of the Rasan Acho’ Latte Cultural Dancers. Man, this group of boys and girls set the mood for the importance of what the night really was all about - our island. I don’t know if it all would have been so powerful without them. The dancers gave great performances in detailed earth-styled costumes and provided a sense of culture to the entire show! Great job, guys! Until next year! AND REMEMBER - REDUCE, REUSE, RECYCLE! Go Green, folks!

Yes, great job to our beautiful friend Jennifer Neves on all her hard work as well as all involved in the production of the Miss Earth Guam 2009 pageant. Congratulations to all the beautiful contestants who participated and to all the winners! I must say, the Rasan Acho’ Latte Cultural Dancers really worked extra hard and provided great entertainment for the evening.

Awesome, when I was reading the list of runner ups and it said Miss Fire, Water, and Air…
All I could think of is Captain Planet, haha!
Earth, Fire, Wind, Water, Heart… Go Planet!
By your powers combined, I am Captain Planet!!!
Another geek moment, I am a child of the 90s of course
Comment by Michael Lujan Bevacqua on 12 June 2009:
I can still remember most of that theme song. So you are not alone Jayton. “Captain Planet, he’s a hero/ Gonna take pollution down to zero…”

Too bad we couldn’t get a Chamoru-speaking woman to represent us. Oh well… better luck next time I guess.
Comment by Aleta on 27 July 2009:
Congratulations to Malou and the other title holders. And a BIG Si Yu’us Ma’ase to all the contestants for their efforts to keep Guam clean and go green! =D
LOL @ the Captain Planet comments. I still watch it on the boomerang channel. “Captain Planet, he’s our HERO, gonna take pollution down to ZERO, He’s our powers magnified, And he’s fighting on the planet’s side …. We’re the Planeteers. You can be one too ‘Cause saving our planet is the thing to do!
Looting and polluting is not the way, Hear what Captain Planet has to say!”
“THE POWER IS YOURS” Malou, represent Guam well! <3
