Bus Fire Romance

Anyone who was on the roads yesterday afternoon during rush hour felt the effects of the stalled tourist bus that caught fire in upper Tumon.  Fortunately, no one was hurt. With that said, allow me to gripe about the traffic that was just UNBELIEVABLE! The traffic was stalled all the way to East Agana. Can you believe that? No-Go!

I discovered it a bit too late as I picked up the wife from work. On our way to get baby Seth at mom and dad’s, we got trapped smack dab in the middle of it all. The traffic didn’t move – not one bit. Meanwhile, after sitting in the same spot for over half an hour with spurts of breakneck speeds of 2MPH, we realized we were right in front of the entrance to the Hyatt.

So we decided to make lemonade out of lemons. I made a hard left towards the entrance and thus began our one hour-long mini-vacay at the Hyatt. Because we’re parents with schedules, we normally don’t make the time to do things like this, so it was fun to go unscripted. It was as if we had no choice but to unwind and spend much needed time together.

We got to the Hyatt and decided to have a drink and watch the sunset while we wait for the traffic to ease up. By this time we felt a bit careless like how you’d used to ditch class to hang out with friends. We weren’t supposed to be there – but we were and it was fun.

We sipped bad wine along the beach, talked a bit and reminisced about the days when she used to paddle across Tumon Bay and  I used to work at the Hyatt as a club DJ. That must’ve been another lifetime ago, since I don’t remember a thing. :)

After a while, we took an elevator ride up to the 14th floor to scope out the traffic situation below. It was almost a bummer that the roads were clear. Hand in hand, we made our way back to real life.

Reality Note: If you’re looking for good wine, don’t go to Breezes (poolisde at the Hyatt)! Their house white and red were not good at all, they served them in plastic ‘cups’ and cost an arm and a leg! Sometimes I wonder if it’s cheaper to be a tourist than a local.
